The furniture and style of your new bedroom will be amongst your first considerations – What storage do you need and where? You will then most likely think colour, decor and bedding.

Creating the perfect lighting in your bedroom is also essential. From creating a relaxing ambiance for a quiet night with soft or dim lighting, to good practical lighting when getting ready for work or social occasions you should consider the various lighting options available. You may wish to highlight a particular feature in the room or choose wall lighting, inset into furniture lighting or ceiling spot lights. The options are versatile and endless.

Designing your bedroom should include a reflexion of what atmosphere and style you wish to create into your own personal space. Lighting will make a huge difference.

Lighting for relaxation

For many of us curling up with our favourite book after a long day is a must. Whilst you need clear good light to read by, the room as a whole needs to have a relaxing feel. A spot light, bedside light, or adjustable reading light will give a relaxing overall feel with a good source of area lighting for you to read.

Mood lighting

During the hustle and bustle of getting ready for work or the day ahead, you will appreciate good clear lighting. The mood you are trying to create in the evening, however, will vary vastly. You will most likely want warm, cosy lighting, or even more romantic lighting to resemble candlelight.

Compliment the design

A contemporary redesigned bedroom will display clean lines and a minimal look. Ceiling spots or feature lighting can be an excellent way to compliment the look. For the more traditional bedroom you may choose lighting underneath bridge units or bedside lamps. Either way the lighting should be subtle and not overpowering.

Practical Lighting

To enable you to keep organised and find what you need in a hurry, good practical lighting is essential. Lighting inside or above the wardrobes may be a great option. Not only is this type of lighting practical, it will compliment the design of the bedroom.

Mirror or feature Lighting

Especially when space is limited a mirror is a worthwhile addition to a bedroom. You will also benefit from a mirror when getting ready for work or social occasions and lighting conveniently placed above the mirror will be practical and a feature of the room. You of course may choose a particular feature in the room such as a picture, shelf or art work to highlight with feature lighting.

Whatever lighting you choose, it should compliment the design of your new bedroom and create the perfect ambiance for you to relax in your personal space.
